Fine Wine from Our Bottle Shop and Taproom:
The Rothschild wine legacy began in 1868 when James de Rothschild purchased Bordeaux’s Château Lafite – an estate which was already synonymous with the finest wines of the region. Over a century later, his grandson, Baron Edmond, set out to create South African wines with the same level of renown.
With the help of local businessman Anton Rupert, he began producing blends in Franschhoek using the same traditional grape varieties found in Bordeaux. And it wasn’t long before the world took notice. Today, the estate is managed by the next generation of both families – and their wines continue to attract international acclaim.
This is made predominantly from Merlot and is matured for over a year in French oak. Discover juicy flavours of raspberry, cherry and plum, with notes of forest floor and toasty oak spice. A hint of smokiness makes it a wonderful choice for roast duck or red meats.
